Studio 54: Night Magic traces the radiant history, social politics, and trailblazing aesthetics of the most iconic nightclub of all time. The Studio 54: Night Magic exhibition uses photography, fashion, drawing, and film, as well as never-before-exhibited costume illustrations, set proposals, and designs, to place the nightclub within the wider history of New York, from Prohibition through the 1970s.

For the exhibition video, we traced the night club’s history using collage animation and behind-the-scene 16mm film to show the club in a new light. Pushing beyond Studio 54 lens flares & glitter glamour cliches, the Night Magic video blends hip early 80’s NYC aesthetics to show how the club would host a variety of events and subcultures, and most of all, celebrities.

The video features a collaboration with Bráulio Amado for type design and character illustration.
